For many years, the QX50 has lead the way for the luxury brand, leaving a long line of satisfied customers in its wake. They love the QX50 for its styling, its power and efficiency as well as its well-appointed and luxurious interior.
The QX50 has always been quite the looker but the latest generation that debuted in 2018 took those looks to the next level. Aggressive headlamps, five-point grille with chrome surround, chrome window frame and a variety of handsome wheel choices all served to set the QX50 apart from others in the compact luxury crossover game. The theme continues inside with broad, flared surfaces to help open up and add airiness to the cabin, as well as dual digital displays that serve as the centre console. Having the screens makes for a less-cluttered dash for a more relaxed experience. The lower button count it allows for also means there are less parts that could break, which is always important when considering a pre-owned vehicle. Also helping in that regard are the materials used; the real leather, the metals and the switchgear are all made of top-grade materials that look great, and wear very well.
Power-wise, models before 2018 came equipped with a 3.7-litre V6 good for a hearty 325 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Since there’s no turbocharging involved, power delivery is instantaneous an you’ll be up and on your way in no time.
From 2018 and on, however, things changed quite drastically as the V6 was replaced by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit good for 268 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. That is less hp that the previous-gen model, but the engine itself is unique in that it makes use of a variable compression system – the “VC-Turbo” – which provides the performance of a turbocharged engine, with the efficiency of a diesel. Add a continuously-variable automatic transmission and you find more efficiency still, as well as very smooth acceleration.
With that kind of technology both under the hood and inside the cabin, as well as the premium materials used and interior space, the QX50 is a must-see CUV for those in the luxury market.
