How to Prep Your Infiniti For Spring

How to Prep Your Infiniti For Spring

We all know the feeling. Months spend cooped inside our homes or offices, heat in our cars cranked to the max, far too much money spent at Tim Horton’s; of course cozying up with family and all was great – but only for a time. Now, it’s time to ship up, shape out and hit the springtime running. Before you do, though, make sure your Infiniti car or SUV is up to the task because winter can be hard on them, too.

Tire Check

Winter tires are imperative for snowy, slippery conditions, but they don’t provide as much traction as all-season tires on drier roads and they tend to have a negative effect on fuel economy. Not to mention they may have picked up stray objects lodged in the snow or ice melt through the winter months. This is why one of your first jobs as you prep your Infiniti for spring is to make sure your tires are up to snuff, and that often means switching to all-season or summer tires.

Top it Up

Not only can snow, rain or sleet be difficult to drive in, it requires heavy use of your windshield washing fluid and the wipers themselves. Wiper blades can become damaged when running over the grime winter drives leave behind and you don’t want to be heading into one of spring’s early rainstorms without the adequate ability to clear all that water off. Wiper blades are your friend – treat them like one. Consider as well applying a coat of water repellent to your windshield and rear window, as well as the side windows that aren’t helped by wipers.

The same goes for your vehicle’s fluids. We use our washer fluid constantly during the winter and it’s bound to be low so you’ll want to check that. Oil changes should be happening every 5,000-8,000 miles, and since we may be driving our cars more in the winter instead of cycling, taking transit or walking that mileage count can creep up quickly.

Stay “In Charge”

Your wipers, your HVAC system, your starter motor – that’s all possible thanks to your car’s battery and it won’t maintain a charge forever. Since we use many of those elements even more during the winter, your battery could very well be strained. Have your local Infiniti dealer check to make sure your battery won’t leave you out in the (slightly less) cold.

Prim and Proper

While we of course don’t want the handsome lines and body panels of our Infiniti caked in salt grime and mud because, well, it just doesn’t look that good, there’s more to it than that. Consider how all that accumulating grime could be hiding blemishes that, left untreated, could worsen. Or that the grime itself may be causing distress to both the paint and the uderbody and on, and on. A good end-of-winter washing can reveal all of this, and have your Infiniti looking great all at once.
