With similar nomenclatures, it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between certain models within the Infiniti lineup. This is the case with the QX50 and QX60 SUVs. We're guessing the latter offers a bit more, but to what level?
Let's take a look at how these two models differ. Both are very interesting, but perhaps they are aimed at different audiences.
First, let's talk about the format. The QX50 falls into the compact SUV category, while the QX60 falls into the mid-size category. Basically, the latter is 30 cm longer, and its wheelbase is 10 cm longer. This, of course, translates into a larger cabin for the QX60. Second-row occupants, for example, enjoy more room. The QX60 also has a third row, so families with young children will be better off with this model.
And to illustrate this with numbers, let's look at both models' cargo volumes. With the QX50, space is set at 1,048 litres behind the second row, and 1,822 behind the first. That's excellent for the segment, by the way. With the QX60, it's 411 litres behind the third row, then 1,178 litres behind the second, then 2,135 litres with all seats down.

Second, the QX60 needs a more powerful powertrain because it's bigger and heavier. It gets it. Its engine is a 3.5-litre V6 that develops 295 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Infiniti uses a nine-speed automatic transmission to link the engine to the wheels. This allows the model to be one of the best in its class when it comes to towing. Its capacity is set at 6,000 pounds.
The QX50 is no slouch, as the 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission to deliver really good fuel economy, around 8.3 L/100 km on the highway. Because of its smaller size, the QX50 is a more maneuverable and responsive vehicle, so you’ll have more fun behind the wheel. The QX60 is designed for smoothness and long trips, although it proves to be very sturdy when pushed around a bit.
For towing, the QX50 is limited to 3,000 pounds.
As you can see, we have two excellent vehicles, but they are not aimed at the same buyers. You must see what suits you best by visiting the dealership to examine the models.
