Volvo Cars' Recharge Plug-In Hybrids Now Give You More Bang for Your Buck – Plus Less Pollution

Get ready to experience the next level of power and performance with Volvo Car Canada's upgraded Recharge Plug-In Hybrid models! Enjoy up to an NRCAN estimated 58 – 64 kilometres of pure electric range on a single full charge and lower emissions for a cleaner ride every time you get behind the wheel.

For many drivers, Volvo Canada's Recharge T8 AWD plug-in hybrid powertrain offers the perfect balance of performance and efficiency. With an increased power output of 455 hp, thanks to the new long-range battery with 18.8 kWh nominal energy and a powerful rear electric motor, this is the highest-performing Volvo ever produced. Plus, users can take advantage of pre-heating and cooling their cabin remotely via the Volvo Cars app even when not plugged in. Additionally, the 65 percent increase in power on the rear wheels delivers improved performance at low speeds and when towing or driving on slippery roads.

Volvo Canada is leading the way in electric car innovation with its range of Recharge Plug-In Hybrid models. Customer research shows that Volvo's plug-in hybrids are already driven around half of the time in pure electric mode, and this powertrain upgrade promises to increase that statistic further. The Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) models, such as S60, V60, XC60, S90, and XC90 Recharge, now come with this advanced technology. Added to this is the upgraded turbocharged T8 gasoline engine, which provides higher fuel efficiency, better performance, and reduced CO2 tailpipe emissions.

As part of its commitment to become the leader in the premium electric car market by 2025, Volvo Cars has set a goal to sell 1.2 million cars globally - with at least half being fully electric - and plans to transition into becoming a fully electric car company by 2030.

“Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles play an important role in the shift to electrification,” said Matt Girgis, managing director, Volvo Car Canada. “These upgraded powertrains will demonstrate the many benefits of an electric future and will serve as an enabling technology that will encourage more consumers to adopt the electric lifestyle.”
